MicroFeed-In-Tariff (microFit)
Why microFit Now?
The microFIT program is part of Ontario's Green Energy Act. At this time, the Ontario microFIT program is the highst Feed-in-Tariff program in the world.
MicroFIT project owners are paid a guaranteed price over a 20-year term for electricity produced and sent to the province's electricity distribution system. The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) offers 80.2 cents per kWh of power generated through rooftop photovoltaic projects, and 64.2 cents per kWh for ground-mounted projects. On Sept. 30, 2011, this may change. Rates may be reduced to become more consistant with global solar Feed-in-Tariff rates.
Benefits of the microFit Program
- An investment in solar generation is low risk, because the components require minimal maintenance, and the solar panels come with warranties from 20-25 years. The investment also comes with a 20 year contract, backed by the Ontario Government.
- Prices are designed to cover the costs of a typical project, including your initial purchase, installation, and connection, as well as ongoing operation and maintenance.
- Earn up to 12% rate of return on your investment over the term of your contract.
The Process
There are four key steps involved in signing up for the microFIT program.
- Submit OPA application and Hydro application.
- Receive a conditional offer from the OPA.
- Build and connect your utility project.
- Accept your contract and start receiving your payments.
Capital Solar Power will take your microFIT project through the entire process. To learn more about our services, see our Services.
